The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of Odfjell Drilling (Odfjell) on board Island Innovator on 20 March 2013 while the facility was docked at a shipyard at Hanøytangen. The audit is part of the processing of a new application for Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the Island Innovator facility.

The objective of the audit activity was to follow up that the company safeguards regulatory requirements for systems, equipment, procedures, etc. related to drilling operations, as well as the facility’s technical condition within the area. Working conditions and facilitation for activities in the drilling areas, as well as learning, training and exercises, were also reviewed.

No nonconformities in relation to the regulations were proven.

Improvement items were proven in connection with

  • Regulatory expertise
  • Labelling of equipment
  • Scaling of manometers
  • Visual overview of the shaker area
  • Manual sampling of drilling fluid

An improvement item entails that deficiencies have been observed, but there is not enough information to prove a breach of regulations.
