Audit of comprehensive chemical management

From 1 to 3 October 2013, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway and the Norwegian Environment Agency carried out an audit of North Atlantic Management and Statoil in connection with predrilling activities at Valemon using West Elara. The topic for the exercise was comprehensive chemical management relating to predrilling of Valemon.

The objective of the audit was to assess the companies' systems and practices for comprehensive chemical management, including:

  • the processes informing the choice of chemicals and how they are used and handled
  • the weighting of different factors connected with the external environment, the working environment and safety
  • technical, operational and organisational barriers against spills and health hazards in the use of chemicals

One non-conformity was identified in connection with chemical management.
