Audit of Equinor – Statfjord A in late life

From 28 August to 5 October 2018 we carried out an audit of Equinor’s management and follow-up of Statfjord A and the preconditions for safe operation of the facility.

Statfjord is a field that produces oil and gas from both sides of the boundary between the Norwegian and UK continental shelves in the Tampen area.

The field has been developed using three integrated processing, drilling and quarters facilities with concrete jackets and steel decks. Statfjord A came on stream in 1979. The plan for development and operation for Statfjord late life was approved in June 2005. Consent to use Statfjord A beyond its original design life was granted on 28.12.2007 for 20 years until 1.1.2028.

The objective of this audit was to monitor how Equinor has followed up and complied with the preconditions set out in the application for an operating life extension and that its management conforms to the operator’s and the authorities’ requirements. We placed special emphasis on maintenance and spare parts management of installations and equipment associated with materials handling, condition monitoring of selected process systems and drilling and well installations leading up to the predicted shutdown in late 2022.

No non-conformities were identified.
