Audit of Esso – Slagentangen

On 9 and 10 February 2015, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway carried out an audit of Esso Slagentangen, comprising surface maintenance and corrosion under insulation (CUI).

The objective of the audit was to verify whether Esso Slagentangen was satisfying the requirements in the framework, management, and technical and operational regulations for onshore facilities within the area of surface maintenance and corrosion under insulation (CUI).

No non-conformities were identified.

An improvement point was identified in connection with documentation.

Slagentangen is Norway's oldest onshore facility and was opened by Einar Gerhardsen in 1961. The refinery processes around 5.6 million tonnes of petroleum per annum.  It refines crude oil into heating oil and fuel for car, boats and aircraft. Around 60 per cent of the finished products are exported abroad. Oil is transported to Slagentangen by ship and brought ashore through a dedicated oil terminal at the quay facility.
