Audit of late life safety

We have carried out an audit of how Statoil is following up the Statfjord facilities beyond their original planned lifetime.

Statfjord lies close to the boundary line between the Norwegian and UK continental shelves in the Tampen area in the North Sea. The field has been developed using three integrated production, drilling and accommodation facilities with concrete jackets. The three facilities Statfjord A, B and C came on stream in 1979, 1982 and 1985 respectively.

The facilities had an original design life of 30 years, and all have received consent for extended use.

On 25 and 26 January 2017, we carried out an audit of how Statoil is following up the preconditions defined for the applications for extended lifetimes for the facilities. The audit took place as meetings at Statoil's premises at Forus.

The audit identified non-conformities relating to benzene exposure and to the firefighting system for slug catchers for stacks.

In addition, improvement points were detected in connection with barrier understanding and noise exposure.

Statoil been given a deadline of 27 April 2017 to report on how the non-conformities will be dealt with and how the improvement points will be assessed.
