Audit of Leiv Eiriksson

During 25 – 26 February 2013, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of Ocean Rig on board Leiv Eiriksson.

The objective of the audit activity was to follow up that the company, prior to starting new activity on the Norwegian shelf, safeguards the regulatory requirements related to the areas that were inspected, and that the technical condition of the facility is safeguarded as described in the facility’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC).

Nonconformities were identified in connection with:

  • governing preparedness documentation
  • labelling of escape routes
  • storage of MOB boat equipment
  • fire stations and fire-fighting equipment
  • training and exercises
  • MOB boat exercises
  • escape chute
  • life jackets
  • seats in lifeboats
  • way down from helicopter deck

Furthermore, improvement items were identified in connection with:

  • regulatory expertise
  • labelling of equipment
  • cleaning the drilling fluid tanks
  • protection against hydrocarbon evaporation
  • control panel for mixing
  • overview of drill floor
  • pressure manometers on kill and choke manifolds
  • scaling of pressure manometers on kill and choke manifolds
