Audit of preparedness and drilling on Rowan Stavanger

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) conducted an audit activity on board the Rowan Stavanger on 13-14 September 2011, while the facility was on the Yme field in the North Sea.


Background
Rowan Stavanger has previously received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) as a living quarters facility. This audit primarily targeted drilling areas and related operations.

Objective
The objective of the audit was to verify compliance with regulatory requirements in the preparedness and drilling disciplines in connection with the AoC application Rowan Drilling Norge AS has submitted to the PSA for the drilling part of Rowan Stavanger.

Result
The audit identified nonconformities related to:

  • Marking of escape routes
  • Expertise and training
  • Performance requirements
  • Non-skid protection
  • Reversed circulation
  • Dust exhaust

 Improvement items were also identified related to:

  • Marking of fire stations
  • Emergency power
