Audit of radio and telecommunications systems on Troll A

Audit: On 14 - 15 December 2009, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA), with expert assistance from Telenor Maritime Radio, Radio Inspection, conducted an audit of the Troll A facility relating to the radio and telecommunications systems. We identified no nonconformities in relation to the regulatory requirements, but seven potential items of improvements were identified.


Background for the audit
The background for the audit was related to follow-up of relevant requirements, as well as giving advice on the HSE regulations. A similar audit on Troll A (photo) was conducted in September 2001.

Purpose of the audit
The purpose of the audit was to verify the technical conditions and maintenance of the radio and telecommunications systems on the facility, assessed against relevant requirements in the HSE regulations, primarily Section 17 of the Facilities Regulations  relating to systems for internal and external communication, Section 18 relating to communication equipment, Section 19 of the Activities Regulations relating to competence, Section 71 relating to communication, as well as Chapter IX, Sections 42-46 relating to maintenance.

Result of the audit
Seven observations classified as potential improvements were identified within the area of radio and telecommunications systems.
