Audit of the engineering of load-bearing structures on the Gudrun facility’s deck

From 31 August to 1 September 2011, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of Statoil. The audit was related to the engineering of load-bearing structures on the Gudrun facility’s deck.

Background
The detail engineering of the structures on the Gudrun deck is now near completion. The audit was carried out near a milestone in the project to ensure sufficient documentation is available during the start-up of fabrication.

Objective
The objective of the audit was to ensure the engineering of the load-bearing structures takes place in accordance with applicable regulations. With a random sample basis, we reviewed documentation associated with the engineering with emphasis on the exhaustion analyses, determination of weight and centre of gravity, as well as Statoil’s verifications and audit activity.

Results
The structure analyses are large and complicated. In such analyses very much must be done correctly or conservatively.

No breaches of regulatory requirements were identified. However, we have some suggestions for improvement items in relation to completing verifications, and documentation of analyses and analysis tools.
