Audit of the Gina Krog development project - barrier management

From 31 August to 17 September 2015, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway carried out an audit of Statoil's work on barrier management in the Gina Krog development project.

Gina Krog is located 250 kilometres west of Stavanger and 30 kilometres north-west of the Sleipner A facility. The development solution is a new steel platform and an oil storage vessel with a capacity of 850,000 barrels. The field was proven in 1974.

The objective of the audit was to monitor that Statoil, in collaboration with DSME and other stakeholders, is complying with the regulatory requirements for risk and barrier management from a lifecycle perspective.

No non-conformities were identified.

Five improvement points were identified in connection with:

  • Risk matrixes
  • ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable)
  • Systems and processes for barrier management
  • Vulnerability analysis
  • Area classification and ignition source control

Statoil has been given a deadline of 7 December 2015 to report on how the improvement points will be dealt with.
