Report following audit of BP’s Valhall PH project

During the period 19-21 May 2010, the PSA carried out an audit of BP’ s management of materials handling related to the fabrication of a new Valhall process module. Two items with a potential for improvement were identified.

The audit was carried out in the form of interviews with siteteam personnel and verifications at the construction site at Heerema shipyard at Swijndrecht in the Netherlands.

Background
BP’ s Valhall Redevelopment project included the construction of a new process and living quarters facility on the Valhall field, as well as extensive modifications on existing facilities.

During the period 6-7 May 2009, the PSA carried out an audit at the construction site directed at the facilitation of the working environment and material handling. Observations relating to facilitation of material handling were also followed up in the current audit.

Objective
The objective was to verify that the engineering and construction took place in accordance with the regulatory provisions as well as internal company requirements.

Result
The PSA observed two potential improvements, relating to insufficient use of the Norwegian language in the operating documentation, and facilitation of material handling.
