In 2004, there were two serious incidents on the Norwegian Continental Shelf relating to subsea gas blowouts: the incident at Snorre A on 28 November 2004, and the breach of the export pipeline between Jotun A and Statpipe A on 20 August 2004. Both of these incidents were investigated by the PSA.
At a seminar at the PSA in 2006, with participation from the industry and consultancy firms who had worked on the issue, the conclusion was that there was a gap in the industry's knowledge in relation to subsea gas releases.
In 2013, SINTEF initiated the Advanced Modelling Tool for Investigations of Subsea Gas Release (SURE) research project. It is the outcome of this work that will be presented at the seminar on 27 May 2015.
The seminar is aimed at specialist entities and individuals from research, technical and operational domains across the petroleum industry, including operating companies, shipping companies and contractors. The presentations will be given primarily in English.
We invite you to register now. The registration deadline is 20 May 2015.
The seminar is free of charge and will be held at the offices of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway at Professor Olav Hanssens vei 10, Stavanger, on Wednesday, 27 May, from 10.00 to 15.00.
