Consent for exploration drilling using Borgland Dolphin - well 34/7-36S

Det norske oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) has received consent for exploration drilling using the Borgland Dolphin mobile drilling facility in production licence 553 in the North Sea.

Well 34/7-36S is located in the north of the Tampen area in the north of the North Sea. From the drilling location, it is 8 kilometres to the Visund field and 13 kilometres to the Snorre A facility. The nearest mainland is at Florø, 146 kilometres away.

During drilling, the facility's planned position will be:

  • 61° 21' 46.02" N
  • 02° 18' 20.84" E

Water depth at the site is 303.5 metres.

The well is intended to investigate a prospect named "Kvitvola". The planned drilling start-up is August 2014. The operation is expected to last 51 days if the well is dry, and 62 days if hydrocarbons are proved.

Borgland Dolphin is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the Aker H-3 type.
It was built at Harland & Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1977 and underwent an extensive upgrade in 1999.

The facility is owned by Borgland Dolphin Pte Ltd and operated by Dolphin Drilling A/S. It received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in September 2004.
