Consent for exploration drilling using Transocean Spitsbergen - well 7125/4-3

Statoil Petroleum AS (Statoil) has received consent for exploration drilling using the Transocean Spitsbergen mobile drilling facility in production licence 393B.

The consent covers drilling of well 7125/4-3 in production licence 393B in the Barents Sea, where Statoil is the operator. The purpose of the well is to investigate a prospect named "Ensis".

The drilling of Ensis is planned to begin as soon as the facility has finished the well operation at 7324/9-1 ("Mercury"). The earliest drilling start-up is late August 2014. The operation at Ensis is estimated to last 30 days.

The facility's planned position will be:

  • 71° 30' 56.4" N
  • 25° 12' 56.7" E

Water depth at the site is 294 metres. The site is around 42 kilometres from the nearest land: Knivskjellodden in Nordkapp municipality in Finnmark.

Transocean Spitsbergen is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the Aker H-6e type.
It was built at the Aker Stord yard, is registered in the Marshall Islands and classified by DnV.

The facility received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in October 2012.
