Consent to carry out exploration drilling with Aker Barents - well 25/1-12

Det norske oljeselskap (Det norske) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling in the North Sea with the Aker Barents mobile facility.

The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 25/1-12 in production licence 460.

The well is located approx. 175 km west of Bergen and approx. 31 km north of Heimdal.

The well has the geographical coordinates N 59º 51' 28.86'', E 2º 11' 04.91'', and water depth at the site is 102 metres.

The expected start-up of drilling is in the 2nd quarter of 2012. The duration of the activity has been estimated at approx. 40 days.

Aker Barents is a so-called 6th generation semi-submersible drilling facility constructed pursuant to the H-6e concept for drilling operations at water depths of up to 3000 metres and in Arctic regions.

The facility was delivered as a new construction during the summer of 2009, built by Aker Solutions at the Stord shipyard in Norway. Aker Barents received the PSA’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on 10 July 2009 (link).

The facility is owned and operated by Aker Drilling, with main offices in Stavanger.
