Consent to conduct exploration drilling with Aker Barents – well 25/10-10

Consent: ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Norway AS (Esso) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the North Sea with the mobile facility Aker Barents.

The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 25/10-10, which is part of production licence 028S.

The well is located about 107 nautical miles west of Stavanger and two nautical miles west of the Balder field.

Aker Barents will be placed in a position with the following geographical coordinates:

N 59° 11' 5.5",  E 2° 17' 50.7". Water depth at the site is 123 metres.

According to the application for consent, the drilling activity is scheduled to start in February 2010. The activity has an estimated duration of 44 days.

Aker Barents (photo) is a so-called sixth generation semi-submersible drilling facility, built in accordance with the H-6e concept for drilling operations in up to 3000 metres of water and in arctic regions.

The facility was delivered as a newbuild in the summer of 2009, built by Aker Solutions at their Stord shipyard in Norway.

Aker Barents received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in July 2009 (link). The facility is operated by Aker Drilling Operations AS.
