Consent to conduct exploration drilling with Bredford Dolphin – Well 6507/7-14 S

RWE Dea Norge AS (RWE Dea) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea with the mobile drilling facility Bredford Dolphin.

The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 6507/7-14 S in the Halten Terrace area in the Norwegian Sea. The well belongs to production licence 435.

The prospect to be examined is called Zidane 1.

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

  • N 65° 25' 35.84''
  • E 7° 10' 27.97''

Water depth at the drilling location is 369 metres.

Well 6507/7-14 S is located 14 kilometres north-west of the Heidrun Field , 40 kilometres north of the Åsgard Field. The distance to the coast is 175 kilometres. The distance to Kristiansund is 259 kilometres.

The drilling operation will start at the end of May 2010 at the earliest, and is expected to continue for between 81 and 105 days depending on the result of the drilling.

RWE Dea is the operator of production licence 435, with an ownership share of 40 per cent. The other licensees are Norwegian Energy Company (Noreco), Wintershall Norge and Edison International, each with an ownership share of 20 per cent.

Bredford Dolphin

The Bredford Dolphin (above) is a third-generation semi-submersible drilling facility of the type Aker H-3, built in 1976.

Bredford Dolphin is owned by Fred Olsen ASA and operated by Fred Olsen’s subsidiary Dolphin AS (Dolphin). The company headquarters are in Stavanger.

The facility is registered in Singapore, and DNV is the classification society.

Bredford Dolphin received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in 2007.
