Consent to conduct exploration drilling with West Alpha – well 6407/12-3

Consent: Centrica Energi has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea with the mobile facility West Alpha.


By issuing a consent, the HSE authorities indicate that they are confident the company can work in line with the regulations and with the information provided in its application.

The regulator determines in each case how extensive and detailed a consideration it will give to the request for a consent.

The consent relates to the drilling of exploration well 6407/12-3, which is part of production licence 470. The well is located about 126 kilometres north of Kristiansund (map) and ten kilometres east of Draugen.

 

 

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 64° 14' 17.573",  E 7° 48' 54.545".  The water depth at the site is 288 metres.

According to the application for consent, drilling starts in April/May 2010. The activity has an expected duration of 20 days.

West Alpha is an Ultra Yatzy drilling facility, built in 1986. The facility has been modified several times and is registered in Panama with Det Norske Veritas as classification company.

West Alpha is operated by Seadrill with operations office in Stavanger. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Consent (AoC) in December 2001.
