Consent to use the facilities on Vale after change of operator

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Centrica Resources Norge AS (Centrica) consent to use the facilities on the Vale field in connection with the company taking over the operatorship from Statoil.

On behalf of the licensees in production licence 036, Statoil applied to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for consent to transfer the operatorship of Vale to Centrica. The MPE has granted the application, and the change of operator took effect on 1 May 2012.

The change of operator entails that the new operator must apply for consent to use the facilities. This is because such a consent is an expression of the PSA’s confidence that the operating company can ensure responsible operation in accordance with the regulatory requirements. It is primarily based on our assessment of relevant parts of the company’s management system.

The PSA has now granted Centrica consent to use the facilities on the Vale field.

Vale is a gas condensate field located about 16 km north of Heimdal. The field is developed with a seabed template tied to the Heimdal facility by a pipeline system.

The field commenced production in May 2002 with Hydro as operator, followed by Statoil after the merger of the two companies in 2007. The change ofoperator also entails that Centrica takes over Statoil’s interest in the production licence. After this, Centrica will have an interest of 75.8 per cent, while Total E&P Norge AS has 24.2 per cent.
