Lundin given consent for exploration drilling at Johan Sverdrup

Lundin Norway AS (Lundin) has been given consent for the exploration drilling of well 16/3-6 with the mobile drilling rig Bredford Dolphin.

Lundin is the operator for Johan Sverdrup, which was demonstrated in 2010 and is situated approx. 40km south of Grane and Balder in blocks 16/2 and 16/3 in the central part of the North Sea.

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has now given consent for the exploration drilling of appraisal well 16/3-6.

The drilling is scheduled to commence in mid-June and is expected to take 40 days. If the drilling of a side-track well proves to be necessary, the total duration may be up to 83 days.

The well will be drilled at the following coordinates:

58o 49' 07.86" N
02o 42' 11.40" E

The water depth at the site is 117 metres.

The well will be drilled using the mobile drilling rig Bredford Dolphin (pictured). Bredford Dolphin is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Aker H-3 type and was completed in 1976. Bredford Dolphin is owned by Fred Olsen ASA and operated by Fred Olsen’s subsidiary Dolphin AS (Dolphin). The company’s head office is situated in Stavanger. The rig is registered in Singapore, with DNV as the classification company.

Bredford Dolphin was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AOC) by Petroleum Safety Authority Norway in 2007.
