Lundin Norway AS receives consent for exploration drilling

Lundin Norway AS (Lundin) has received consent for drilling of exploration well 16/1-25S in the North Sea.


Lundin is the operator for production licence 338C in block 16/1 in the central North Sea. Exploration well 16/1-25S is to be drilled in a prospect called Rolvsnes.

The coordinates of the well will be:

  • 58° 46' 52.3" N
  • 02° 15' 17.5" E

Drilling will begin in mid-September 2015 at the earliest and is estimated to last 45 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

The well will be drilled by Bredford Dolphin, which is a mobile drilling facility of the Aker H-3 type. It was built in 1977 and significantly upgraded in 2006/2007 . The facility is registered in Singapore and classified by DNV GL.

Bredford Dolphin was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in June 2007

The PSA has now granted Lundin consent for exploration drilling.
