Repsol Exploration Norge AS has received consent to conduct exploration drilling with Transocean Barents

Repsol Exploration Norge AShas received consent to conduct exploration drilling with the Transocean Barents mobile drilling facility.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Repsol Exploration Norge AS consent to conduct exploration drilling of well 7218/11-1.

The drilling activity is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2013, with a duration of approximately 48 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

The planned position of the rig during drilling is:

  • 72° 05' 29.1" N
  • 18° 25' 59.4" E

The drilling site is located in the Barents Sea and is part of production licence 531. Water depth at the site is approximately 325 metres.

Transocean Barents is a 6th generation semi-submersible drilling facility, type H-6e. It was built at the Aker Stord shipyard in Norway and commissioned in 2009.

Transocean Barents is owned and operated by Transocean Norway, with headquarters in Stavanger.
