Repsol Exploration Norge AS receives consent for exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea

Repsol Exploration Norge AS (RENAS) is the operator for production licence 642 in block 6306/5 in the southern Norwegian Sea. Exploration well 6306/5-2 is to be drilled in a prospect called Hagar.


The drill site is 80 km south-west of the Draugen field, and 65 km west of Smøla.  Water depth at the site is 226 metres.

The coordinates of the well will be:

  • 64° 43' 52.3" N
  • 06° 34' 27.4" E

Drilling is scheduled to begin in May 2015 and estimated to last 64 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

The well will be drilled by Bredford Dolphin, which is a mobile drilling facility of the Aker H-3 type. It was built in 1977 and significantly upgraded in 2006/2007. The facility is registered in Singapore and classified by DNV GL.

Bredford Dolphin was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in June 2007.
