Shell receives consent for exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea

We have given A/S Norske Shell (Shell) consent for exploration drilling of well 6304/3-1 in production licence 832 in the Norwegian Sea.

Shell is the operator for production licence 832 in the Norwegian Sea. We have now given the company consent to drill exploration well 6304/3-1. The purpose of the well is to investigate a prospect named "Coeus".

The well will be drilled at the following location:

  • 63°48'05.89" N
  • 04°52'18.41" E

This is around 165 km northwest of Kristiansund, and water depth here is 1,235 metres.

The drilling operations will start between July and September 2018, and are expected to last 55 days.

Drilling is to be carried out using the Scarabeo 8 mobile drilling facility. This is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the Moss CS50 MKII type, operated by Saipem Norge. It was built in Russia and Italy and commissioned in 2012. The facility is classified by DNV GL and registered in the Bahamas.

Scarabeo 8 was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in May 2012.
