Statoil receives consent for exploration drilling in the North Sea

Statoil is the operator for production licence 120 and has received consent to drill exploration well 34/8-16 S in the North Sea.

The coordinates of the well will be:

  • 61° 21' 48.9" N
  • 02° 36' 15.5" E

Statoil has allocated 49 days for the activity, which will start in late September. Water depth at the site is around 380 metres.

Songa Trym is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the Aker H-3 type, built at Aker Verdal in 1976. Major improvements to the facility were made in 2012. Songa Trym is operated by Songa Management AS of Stavanger. It is registered in the Norwegian register of shipping and classified by DNV GL.

Due to its change of ownership, Songa Trym received a new Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in February 2013.

The PSA has now granted Statoil consent for exploration drilling.
