Investigating Nyhamna accidents

The PSA has decided to investigate a number of incidents during 2015 involving dropped objects at the Nyhamna gas processing plant on Norway’s west coast.

These accidents relate to an expansion project at the facility, which is operated by Norske Shell. Some could have caused serious personal injuries under slightly different circumstances.

Goals of the investigation include determining the course of events with the incidents, and identifying their direct and underlying causes.

Attention will be directed in part at the way Norske Shell and its contractors/subcontractors deal with and follow up incidents involving dropped objects.

The investigation will result in a report, which will be published on the ptil.no website.

Located in Aukra local authority in Møre og Romsdal county, the Nyhamna plant processes gas from Ormen Lange in the Norwegian Sea. It is currently being expanded to accept gas via the new Polarled pipeline.
