Audit of maintenance management at Baker Hughes Norge

During the period 16-17 February 2011, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of maintenance management at Baker Hughes Norge (BJ Services).

The objective of the audit activity was to

  • investigate whether BJ Services classifies equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and recognised standards, cf. Chapter IX of the Activities Regulations relating to maintenance
  • evaluate BJ Services’ use of this classification in the maintenance management
  • investigate the analysis basis for maintenance decisions

Result
The results are based on the presentation of elements in BJ Services’ management systems and conversations with personnel responsible for maintenance management, as well as verification of governing documents and systems for implementation of maintenance on systems and equipment in Norway.

BJ Services does not meet all the regulatory requirements as regards maintenance management.

Some of our observations are characterised as nonconformities, according to the categorisation in Chapter 5, and are divided into the following main areas:

  • documentation of chosen solutions
  • governing documents
  • labelling and classification of systems and equipment
  • use of classification as basis for maintenance program as well as selection and prioritisation of maintenance activities
  • maintenance efficiency
