2012/1690 Consent to carry out exploration drilling with Ocean Vanguard

Statoil Petroleum ASA has received consent to carry out exploration drilling with the Ocean Vanguard mobile drilling facility.

The consent relates to drilling of well 25/11-26 which is part of production licence 169. The well is located in the North Sea, west of Stavanger and is situated approx. 178 km from the Stavanger airport, Sola.

The rig’s planned position when drilling well 25/11-26 is:

  • N 59° 14' 03.207"
  • E 002° 36' 40.988"

Water depth at the site is 130 metres.

Drilling start-up is scheduled for 4 January 3012. The activity has an expected duration of 74 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.


Ocean Vanguard is operated by Diamond Offshore with operational headquarters in Stavanger and with technical and operational support from the company’s offices in Aberdeen.

The facility is registered in the Marshall Islands and Det Norske Veritas is the classification society. Ocean Vanguard was constructed in 1982 and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in July 2004.
