The Transocean Arctic (photo) is a fourth generation drilling rig delivered from the shipyard in Japan in 1986. It has been in operation on the Norwegian shelf for many years. The rig has been laid up in Ølen since February 2002.
A number of upgrades have been carried out on board the rig in recent months, and Transocean Offshore has signed a contract with Statoil for drilling assignments using the rig on the Norne field.
