Acknowledgement of Compliance granted to Songa Management AS for Songa Trym

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Songa Management AS an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the Songa Trym mobile drilling facility.

On 15 February 2013, Songa Management AS received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the Songa Trym mobile drilling facility.

What is an AoC?
An Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) is a statement from the PSA indicating that a mobile facility is considered to be in compliance with relevant requirements in the petroleum activities regulations. An AoC also covers the company’s safety management system.

The PSA bases the decision on information provided by the applicant in a special AoC application regarding the facility’s technical condition and the applicant’s organisation and management system.

The information is verified by the PSA through selected audit activities. When the PSA grants an AoC, all safety-critical nonconformities must have been corrected.

After the AoC has been granted, the shipowner is responsible for ensuring that the organisation, management system and facility’s technical condition are in compliance with the regulations at all times.

If the facility operates outside the Norwegian shelf, the owner can choose whether or not to maintain the AoC. If the owner chooses to maintain the AoC, the owner is required to follow up to ensure that the preconditions for the AoC are satisfied at all times.

Decision
Songa Trym and relevant parts of Songa Management AS’ organisation and management systems are considered to be in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements for petroleum activities.

The validity of this Acknowledgement of Compliance assumes that Songa Management AS ensures that the facility and relevant parts of the company’s organisation and management systems are maintained, in order to fulfil terms and conditions set out in the PSA’s decision.

About Songa Trym
The facility previously received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in 2009, when the facility was operated by Odfjell. An application must be submitted for a new AoC in the event of ownership changes, because the AoC also includes the company’s management system.

Audit in connection with the AoC application
In connection with the AoC application on Songa Trym, the PSA carried out an audit within the drilling and well technology discipline.
