Aker Barents granted Acknowledgement of Compliance

The mobile drilling facility Aker Barents was on 10 July 2009 granted an Acknowledgement of Compliance by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA).

The Aker Barents’ hull arrived at Aker Stord from Dubai 6 June 2008. This is an Aker H-6e facility, and it was completed the summer of 2009. The facility is (together with Aker Spitsbergen) the largest drilling facility in the world.

The facility is operated by Aker Drilling Operation AS (Aker Drilling), and the plan is to use the facility for activities on the Norwegian Shelf for Det Norske Oljeselskap AS and GDF SUEZ E&P Norge AS.

Aker Barents and relevant parts of the Aker Drilling organisation and management system have been reviewed and found to be in compliance with the applicable regulatory requirements for the petroleum industry.

Our decision is based on information provided in the AoC application regarding the technical status of the facility, the applicant’s organisation and management system, as well as the authorities’ verifications and general procedure.

The validity of the AoC requires that Aker Drilling ensures that the facility and relevant parts of the company’s organisation and management system are maintained, ensuring that the terms and requirements of the PSA’s decision are maintained.
