Audit of radio and telecommunications systems on Valhall

From 17-22 November 2011, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA), with technical assistance from Telenor Maritime Radio, the Radio Inspection, carried out an audit of the Valhall facility.

The objective of the audit was to assess BP’s foundation for, management and follow-up of radio and communications systems.

Furthermore, the objective was to verify factors related to technical conditions and maintenance of radio and telecommunications systems on the facility, assessed in relation to relevant regulatory requirements within the disciplines covered by the audit.

The overall impression was generally good.

The start-up meeting with BP was useful in order to gain insight into how the company focuses on independence and barriers also as regards communications systems.

No nonconformities were identified.

Improvement items were identified in relation to:

  • radio equipment in rescue tools
  • remote control panel for VHF stations on Valhall PH
  • technical measurements
  • antenna installation
  • communication training for smoke divers
