The LNG plant on Melkøya (source: Statoil)
Background for the audit
The audit activity comes under the PSA's performance goals in the areas of incident prevention and general working environment.
Purpose of the audit
The purpose of the audit was to depict safety and working environment conditions during the major activities that are taking place on Melkøya in the transition between the project phase and the operational phase for Hammerfest LNG. Furthermore, we wanted to gain an insight into what measures are being implemented to prevent undesirable incidents, as well as clarify the transfer of experience from undesirable incidents, with a special focus on lifting activities and falling objects.
Result of the audit
Thorough inspections and verifications were conducted, and it seems certain to us that major improvements have been made in this area since our last audit, even though the plant is now in a very hectic phase. Statoil had for instance carried out considerable work to prevent falling objects as well as put up barriers to prevent injuries from falling objects. However, non-conformity vis-à-vis the current regulations was discovered in the area of crane and lifting activities.
