The consent applies to drilling and completion of the sidestep wells 15/12-7 A and 15/12-8 A on the Varg field (production licence 038). Varg is located in the southern North Sea, about 230 kilometres southwest of Stavanger (see map).
Mærsk Giant is a jack-up mobile drilling facility owned and operated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group. The facility was built in Japan at Hitachi, and completed in 1986. The Mærsk Giant can operate in up to 107 metres of water and can accommodate 87 people. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in February 2002.
The drilling activity will be carried out in the first half of 2008.
