Consent to conduct exploration drilling with Songa Delta – well 16/1-11

Consent: Det norske Oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the North Sea using the mobile facility Songa Delta.

Appraisal well 16/1-11 is located in the northern North Sea about 30 kilometres southwest of Balder/Grane (see map). The distance to Stavanger is 200 kilometres.

Location of the well

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 58° 55’ 36.15’’, E 2° 11’ 7.48’’. The water depth at the site is 112 metres.

The well is part of production licence 001B, operated by Det norske. The other licensees are Statoil and BayernGas.

Start-up of drilling is planned for January 2010. The activity is expected to last for about 75 days, including testing and sidetrack drilling.

The Songa Delta is a third-generation mobile drilling facility of the Ocean Ranger type, completed at Rauma Repola (Finland) in 1981. The facility has previously held an AoC under the name Deepsea Delta. At that time, the facility was owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling AS (Odfjell) in Bergen.

Songa Delta is still operated by Odfjell, but has been bought by Songa Management AS in Stavanger.

The facility has received a new AoC certificate (link) due to the name change in June 2009.
