Consent to conduct exploration drilling with Transocean Winner – block 25/4

Consent: Marathon Petroleum Norge AS (Marathon) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in the northern North Sea using the mobile facility Transocean Winner.


The consent relates to the drilling of exploration wells 25/4-10 S and 25/4-10 AS, which are part of production licence 203 and are situated between the Alvheim and Volund fields.

The wells will be drilled from the following position:

N 59° 30' 51.432",  E 2° 0' 13.784". The water depth at the site is 123 metres.

Planned start-up of the drilling activity is 17 October 2009. The estimated duration of the activity is approximately 53 days.

Transocean Winner

Transocean Winner (photo) is a third-generation semi-submersible drilling facility of GVA-4000 design, built in 1983 at Gøtaverken Arendal in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The facility is owned by Transocean Offshore, and operated by Transocean Offshore (North Sea) Ltd NUF, with headquarters in Stavanger.

Transocean Winner received the PSA's Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in August 2006 (link).
