Consent to conduct exploration drilling with West Alpha on Noatun

StatoilHydro has been granted consent to conduct exploration drilling with the mobile facility West Alpha on well 6407/7-8 (Noatun), located in the Norwegian Sea about 16 kilometres north of the Njord field.


Well 6407/7-8 belongs to Production License 107 and has the following geographical coordinates:

N 64° 25' 29.3",  E 07° 07' 38.4".

 West Alpha

West Alpha (photo) is an Ultra Yatzy drilling facility built in 1986. The facility has been modified several times and was contracted by Statoil, first on the Heidrun field in June 2003 and then on the Kristin field from January 2004, where it has operated until 2007. The facility is registered in Panama with Det Norske Veritas as classification society.

West Alpha is operated by Seadrill. The operations office is in Stavanger. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in December 2001.

The drilling operations will have a duration of about 105 days.
