Consent to exploration drilling with Aker Barents - well 6306/6-2

Consent: Det norske oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) has been granted consent to conduct exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea using the mobile facility Aker Barents.


The consent is for the drilling of exploration well 6306/6-2 which is part of production licence 321.

The well is located 85 kilometres southwest of Draugen, 65 kilometres east of Ormen Lange, and has the following geographical coordinates:

N 63° 41' 12.859'', E 6° 40' 15.292''.

Estimated duration of the drilling operation is approximately 45 days. Testing of the well is not planned, but there is an option of drilling a sidetrack.

The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned following the drilling.

Aker Barents (photo) is a sixth generation semi-submersible drilling facility constructed in accordance with the H-6e concept for drilling operations in water depths down to 3 000 metres and in Arctic areas.

The facility was delivered as a new build in the second quarter of 2009, and was built by Aker Solutions at the Stord shipyard in Norway. It is owned and operated by Aker Drilling, with head office in Stavanger.

Aker Barents received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on 10 July 2009 (link).
