Consent to modification of a steam boiler at the Kårstø terminal

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given Gassco AS a consent to the modification of a steam boiler at the Kårstø gas processing plant.

The consent includes installation of ultra-low NOx (ULNOx) burners on the steam boilers in order to comply with the regulatory requirements for NOx emissions from Kårstø, as well as upgrade the safety and regulation system in order to satisfy the plant's automatization approach.

Furthermore, about 110 boiler pipes are to be replaced in order to ensure stable production of steam for the plant.

There are plans to start testing the burner system and emergency and shutdown systems in October, and to start permanent operations after the modification in the course of November 2005.
