Consent to use backup power plant at Nyhamna

Consent: Statnett SF has received consent to begin using a backup power plant at Nyhamna.

The consent relates to use of a natural gas power plant (backup power plant) located in conjunction with the existing gas terminal at Nyhamna in Aukra municipality in Møre og Romsdal county.

Fuel gas is fed to the backup power plant through a 2000-metre long, 8" pipeline from the Ormen Lange facility.

The plant consists in part of six gas turbines with a total output of up to 150 MW. The plant will be connected to the regional grid in Nyhamna.

Use of the backup power plant will only be relevant in the event of an extremely over-extended power situation, and would require that the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) issue an administrative decision allowing operation of the facility to commence.

On 4 September 2007, NVE issued Statnett SF a licence to build and operate the power plant.
