The official kick-off meeting of the Arctic Offshore Regulators Forum (AORF) took place on 30 April and 1 May 2015 in Washington D.C.
The forum consists of regulators from the USA, Canada, Russia, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Norway has been one of the driving forces for the establishment of a forum of this kind.
There is an overarching objective for this cooperation between the technical agencies to help raise the safety levels of petroleum activities in the Arctic.
The exchange of information, best practice and relevant experience between the authorities of countries with offshore petroleum activities in the Arctic region is one of the forum's principal objectives, according to technical director Finn Carlsen of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA).
The AORF will meet semi-annually, with the next meeting in October 2015 to be hosted by the PSA in Tromsø, Norway.
