Magne Ognedal Director of the new Petroleum Safety Authority Norway

Magne Ognedal (pictured) was appointed Director of the new Petroleum Safety Authority Norway by the King in Council on Friday 21 November. Ognedal is currently a director in the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.


Ognedal trained as a chartered engineer at the University of Newcastle, graduating in 1967. He has worked for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate since 1974. Since 1999 he has been Director of Follow-up.

The new director of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway, by many called "Mr. Safety", enjoys a strong international reputation and has leading positions in several industry networks. He has also received international awards for his strong commitment to safety work.

Magne Ognedal is 60 years old.

The new Petroleum Safety Authority Norway will be established on 1 January 2004. The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway will be the in charge of safety, emergency preparedness and the working environment on the Norwegian shelf.

The appointment as Director is made for six years at a time.
