Order following audit - design of control room

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has issued an order to Statoil ASA following an audit of the design of the control room and alarm systems for the Snøhvit project.

In a letter dated 3 November 2003, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate ordered Statoil to review and document the status of control room design on Snøhvit due to the deviations identified in Chapters 6.1 and 6.2.1 to 6.2.5 of the audit report.

The review is to provide an assessment of measures necessary to ensure that further development of the control room is in accordance with regulatory requirements and Statoil's own requirements for basing the design on the methodology of ISO 11064.

Statoil is ordered to state the dates for implementation of the specified measures, and to incorporate these into a formal and comprehensive plan for further work. The company is to submit the plan to the NPD when it has been formally approved in the project.

The NPD has set a deadline of 15 December 2003 for compliance with the order.
