Order following audit of lifting operations and lifting appliances on Grane

Norsk Hydro is ordered to implement a norm for lifting operations on Grane to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

During the period 25-28 January 2005, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) conducted an audit of Norsk Hydro's (NH's) management of lifting operations and technical factors associated with lifting appliances and lifting gear on the Grane production facility.

In total, the proven nonconformities and improvement items in relation to regulatory requirements led to the PSA issuing a notification of order to NH (ref. net article on 30 May 2005).

Norsk Hydro's response to the notification of order, dated 2 June 2005, did not provide new information that would change our evaluation. Therefore, we are issuing the following order as notified:

"Pursuant to the Activities Regulations, Section 83 relating to lifting operations; the Framework Regulations, Section 18 relating to documentation, cf. Section 58 of the Framework Regulations, Norsk Hydro is ordered to implement a norm for lifting operations on board, so that this satisfies the requirements in Section 83, compared with the recommended norm, which is NORSOK R-003, rev 2.

The deadline for complying with the order is set at 1 July 2005. We ask that the PSA be informed when the order has been implemented.
