Order issued to Teekay following oil spills on Statfjord and Draugen

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has issued an order to Teekay Shipping Norway AS (Teekay) in line with the previous notification. The order relates to circumstances during the oil spill on the Statfjord field on 12 December 2007 and on the Draugen field on 10 January 2008.

In conformance with the notification, we have issued the following order:

Pursuant to Section 3 of the Management Regulations relating to management of health, environment and safety and Section 5 of the Framework Regulations relating to responsibility according to these regulations, first subsection, cf. Section 58 of the Framework Regulations relating to individual decisions, Teekay Shipping Norway a.s. is ordered to identify and implement the necessary improvements in the company's planning and execution of loading operations, particularly as regards the management system linked to maintenance and control of the bow loading system (BLS).

The deadline for complying with the order is set at 1 July 2008.  The PSA must be notified when the company believes it has carried out the order.

The report regarding the incident on the Draugen field also contains an observation that is categorized as an improvement item, and we have asked Teekay for its assessment of this item.
