A person died after falling about 14 metres from scaffolding to the deck. This incident occurred around 09.00 in connection with the dismount of scaffolding on the installation.
The victim, who worked for a contractor company, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen by a search and rescue helicopter. He died soon afterwards.
Three people from the PSA will travel on the afternoon of 7 May to Oseberg B to investigate this serious incident.
The goals of the PSA investigation include identifying the sequence of events as well as the direct and underlying causes of the accident. Its report will be published on the PSA website.
In addition to implementing an independent investigation, the PSA has been asked by the Norwegian police to assist their own inquiries.
The last time a fatal accident occurred in connection with petroleum activitiens was on Saipem 7000 in 2007 (a person fell overboard and died during a lifting operation performed for Statoil at the Tordis field). The last time a fata acciden occurred on a fixed installation on the Norwegian continental shelf was on Gyda in 2002.
