Report following audit of emergency preparedness and helideck on Scarabeo 8

On 14-15 February 2012, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out a verification of emergency preparedness and helideck on board Scarabeo 8.

Saipem SpA (Saipem) operates the Scarabeo 8 drilling facility on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The PSA’s activity was conducted as part of the processing of the application for an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the facility.

The objective of the activity was to verify technical and management aspects in the fields of emergency preparedness, helideck and helideck operations.

Nonconformities were identified related to:

  • Labelling and signposting
  • Fire stations
  • Lifeboats
  • Loose interior fittings

Improvement items were also identified related to:

  • Follow-up of findings in the emergency preparedness analysis
  • Loose equipment in the outdoor areas
  • Transport of injured person from pontoons and columns
  • Storage of MOB equipment
  • Lighting under rescue and evacuation equipment
  • Performance requirements for emergency response teams
  • Marking of emergency lighting
  • Competence
