The PSA demobilizes its emergency control centre – follows up with investigation

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has demobilized its emergency control centre, but will continue to follow up the oil leak from the Statfjord A facility vis-à-vis the operator StatoilHydro. This afternoon the PSA decided to initiate its own investigation into the incident, which took place on Saturday, 24 May 2008.

There were 217 persons on board when the leak occurred. A total of 156 person were evacuated from the facility to Statfjord B, Statfjord C and elsewhere.

In an emergency situation the PSA supervises the operator’s compliance with regulatory requirements, including a continuous assessment of the measures implemented to gain control of the situation.
