Report: Management of major accident risk and activity management

Since 2008, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has carried out audits of how management in a group of selected companies maintains an overview of and work to reduce major accident risk. The discoveries from this audit activity are now summarised in a summary report.

The audit activity discussed in this report is directed at major accident risk and how companies and licence groups relate to such risk when managing their activity. The activity is limited to what is relevant in this regard from the company management’s perspective, information basis and actions.

The objective of the audit activity was to gain insight into how company management relates to major accident risk in the company’s activities and how this impacts the company management’s decisions and initiatives. This also includes how the companies exercise their licensee function.

Since 2008, the audit activity has included audits directed at 15 companies, and also three licensee groups in 2010. The activity has provided insight into how company management relates and prioritises aspects related to management and major accident risk, also in the licensee function.
