Audit of Transocean Offshore - Transocean Barents

From 10 to 12 June 2013, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of emergency preparedness on the Transocean Barents mobile drilling facility.


The objective of the audit was to identify the facility's emergency preparedness organisation, equipment and systems for providing emergency response functionality. The audit covered factors including:

  • Barriers and performance requirements in emergency preparedness
  • Evacuation routes and rescue equipment
  • Fire protection equipment
  • Emergency preparedness procedures and organisation
  • Training and drills

The audit identified three non-conformities and seven improvement points.
The non-conformities related to:

  • Familiarity with analyses and governing documentation
  • Fulfilment of performance requirements of barriers
  • Launch arrangements for MOB boat

The improvement points related to:

  • Updating of emergency preparedness analyses
  • Planning, contents and follow-up of training for response teams
  • Follow-up of drills
  • Signage and marking
  • Equipment in fire stations
  • Securing of loose equipment
  • MOB suits
